From Raw Silver to Wearable Art: Inside the Alléro Studio

There's a moment in the making of every piece of jewellery where something shifts. Where a flat sheet of sterling silver — cold, unassuming, full of potential — begins to take on a life of its own. At Alléro, that moment is everything.

Where It All Begins

Every Alléro piece starts with an idea that's been quietly forming in the studio. Before a single tool is picked up, there's intention. A sketch. A feeling. A sense of what this piece needs to be.

That's what sets handmade jewellery apart. It doesn't begin on a factory floor or in a computer programme. It begins with a person, a vision, and a block of sterling silver.

The Making Process

Once the design is set, the real work begins. Sterling silver is cut, shaped, and coaxed into form using traditional jewellery-making techniques that have been refined over centuries — sawing, filing, soldering, and finishing by hand.

Sawing — Each shape is carefully cut from sheet silver using a jeweller's saw. It's slow, deliberate work. There's no rushing it.

Forming & Shaping — The silver is worked with hammers, mandrels, and formers to create curves, texture, and dimension. Every mark left by a tool is a decision.

Soldering — Components are joined using heat and solder, fusing separate elements into a single, unified piece. This is where a design truly comes together.

Filing & Finishing — Hours of refining. Smoothing edges, perfecting surfaces, bringing out the natural lustre of the silver. This is where patience becomes craft.

When the Silver Has Other Ideas

Here's the thing about making art — you can plan, sketch, and intend all you like, but the process has a way of taking over.

A piece I imagined one way might evolve into something else entirely as it takes shape in my hands. Sometimes a small change in angle or texture opens up a completely different direction. Sometimes something goes wrong — the solder doesn't flow right, the shape collapses, a piece melts altogether — and I have to start again from scratch.

And honestly? Some of my favourite pieces have come from exactly those moments.

That's the nature of working with your hands. The intention is always there, but so is the unexpected. I've learned to hold the plan loosely — to stay open to where the silver wants to go. Because sometimes what a piece becomes is far more interesting than what I thought it would be. That's not a failure. That's art.

One of a Kind, Every Time

No two Alléro pieces are identical. Even when working from the same design, the handmade process means that each piece carries its own subtle character — a slight variation in texture, a unique surface quality, a finish that catches the light in its own way.

That's not a flaw. That's the point.

In a world of mass production, there's something quietly radical about wearing a piece of jewellery that exists nowhere else on earth. Something made specifically for you, by hand, with care.

The Story Behind the Silver

At Alléro, I believe jewellery should mean something. Whether it's a bespoke commission marking a milestone, a gift that carries a personal message, or a piece you chose simply because it spoke to you — the silver holds that story.

That's why I take the time to get the making right. Because when you wear an Alléro piece, you're not just wearing jewellery. You're wearing the hours, the decisions, the craft, and the care that went into creating something that is entirely, uniquely yours.
